Hello Monday.
today is Martin Luther King day in the states.
for some it's a day off of work and school.
today was the Presidential Inauguration as well.
this president got my vote the first time but not the second time around.
but,
i still honor and respect the job that he has to do and the freedom that i have to have gotten to vote.
yesterday i took the challenge to "unplug for LOVE" to i spent the day off Social Media.
No instagram and almost no Facebook.
i did talk to my Bestie Kim from HS on Facebook,she lives in Italy and it's the best way for us to chat.
other than that there were no updates or checking status etc.
gotta tell you.
it was nice.
i was jittery at first.
it was a family day.
we watched some football.
{My Mr. did}
we laid in bed and chatted.
{the girls & i}
we had a Sunday family dinner.
{made a yummy Turkey}
we watched Downton Abbey.
we crafted.
we spent the day together.
we were all home together.
Grant, Me, Meg, Brooke and my boy Max is home.
it was a family day.
loved it.
last night after Downton Abbey Brooke and i went up to the studio she always wants to craft.
{love that}
i have been trying to finish my Mantle i started before CHA it is all put up i just wanted to add some Valentine touches!
i knew i wanted to add some feathers and some arrows.
so last night i worked on the feathers.
the girls and i have an obsession that started a long time ago with Feathers.
Meg has the most beautiful Feather Tattoo.
she has had it for several years.
now the rage.
last year in my Spark your Christmas class i taught how to create bookpaper feathers for gift wrap!

this was last year's gift wrap!
i have been so inspired by feathers that i knew i wanted to add them to the mantle.
so Brooke and i started creating feathers then she took it too a whole new level and i died.
the girl is brill.
i know there are so many versions of the gilded feather but i haven't seen them done like these so we went to town.
here is how we created these.
1. Gather Supplies
Glue stick, Gold & Silver Paint, Chunky Glitter Gold & Silver & a Wet adhesive.
any gluestick will work. I have linked my favorites of the rest.
an Old Book, Scissors, Paint Brush, Pipe Cleaners & Brayer.
2. Adhere with a Glue Stick 2 sheets of book paper together.
with a pipe cleaner in-between both sheets.
{i put the pipe cleaner at a diaginal.}
3. Use your brayer to help adhere the two book papers together.
4. Cut the shape of a feather once your book paper is dried.
{i usually do several sheets then go back and start cutting}
{i don't use a pattern i just eye-ball it.}
5. Paint the tips of your feathers with Silver or Gold paint.
{i love the Ranger Dabbers then i don't need an extra paint brush!}
6. Let all your feathers dry.
7. Cut your feathers at an angle into the pipe cleaner. {making sure your words are read-able}
and on both sides, not too close together.
8. Adhere your chunky glitter with a wet adhesive, using a paint brush.
{i like Glossy Accents.}
then cover with your Chunky Glitter.
{put something under you to catch your extra glitter}
9. Let totally dry.
10. Spread out your feathers & bend & manipulate your pipe cleaner so your feather looks real!
Finished!
i tucked them into milkglass vases all over the house!

The no social media Sunday was good. By doing this we can spent a quality time with our family and that would be amazing.
